Water Music, is a suite of short pieces for small orchestra composed by German-born English composer George Frideric Handel. It is known particularly for its highly spirited movements in dance form. The work was composed at the request of King George I of Great Britain. It was first performed on a barge on the River Thames, where King George I hosted a royal cruise on the Thames River on July 17, 1717. The king was so pleased with the music, he asked for it to be played four times.
